ANNOUNCEMENT ON TEMPORARY STAY
As a result of a policy modification concerning admission of aliens to the Republic
of Suriname, foreigners who need a visa to enter Suriname and who have the
intention of staying longer than three (03) months, will have to, as from October
01st, 2008 apply for an Authorization for Temporary Stay (M.K.V.) before they travel
to Suriname.
The above implies that foreigners who need a visa (with the exception of foreigners of Surinamese origin) and who have traveled to Suriname on a tourist of business visa will not be able to apply for residence during their stay in Suriname.
These foreigners will have to apply for a longer stay by completing an Application form which may be obtained from the Embassies or Consulates General of the Republic of Suriname. The application for obtaining the M.K.V. must be submitted to the Embassy or the Consulate General at least three (03) months before the intended day of arrival in Suriname.
For foreigners who need a visa and who are of Surinamese origin (persons born in Suriname or persons whom two or one parent(s) are/is of Surinamese origin), the present policy will remain unmodified, which implies that these persons who have to traveled to Suriname with a tourist or business visa will have the option to apply for residence during their stay in Suriname.
Those foreigners who do not need a visa will have the right to apply for residence during their stay in Suriname or through one of the Embassies or Consulates General of Suriname.
It is important to note that one who applies for the M.K.V. will also have to apply for a visa if they belong to the group of foreigners for whom traveling to Suriname with a visa is obligatory.
